Practical for home?

A Picture Share!

I've been looking into getting a laser printer for home use. My ink jet that I purchased at discount with my new computer is fine for what it is, but now that I've kicked myself in the ass about slacking off on my non-blog writing, I need something that will withstand the constant draft printing that I do during the week.

I noticed that HP has the same printer that we have at work on sale for $150. Yes, I know the cost of the cartridges will eat me up, but they do last a pretty long time, considering.

What do you think? Anyone out there splurge for a good home laser printer?

I purchased an HP 1012 for the office. I love it. I'm considering buying for home to print my wedding programs on. I say do it!

I think laser printers are cheaper per page than ink jet printers. You just don't get color unless you spend a lot.

The "best" home laser printer I ever used was connected to the outlet/network at the office.

Loved mine until the day it died on me. Well worth $150 just for the great print quality, if you don't mind giving up color.

Oh, and it's death was my fault. Left it in front of an open window during a rainstorm.

I have an HP 4050 at home. The toner lasts a long time. The quality is excellent, it is fast as well. I actually didn't put the ink jet up for 2 months after moving. Even then, my daughter needed a color photo for a school project, so it wasn't even me that needed the color. I say, spend the dough, get a laser.

What Mace said. Generally speaking, a laserjet printout is less than a nickel per page at 15% coverage (a business letter); an inkjet is 20+ cents per page at 15% coverage.

Mine has lasted since 2000 and on one toner!
They even discontinued it!!!!

Get something like this... the others are TOO BIG AND WILL get in the way.

I have an HP 4050 that I lucked into. I've had it at home for almost a year and it's still on the cartridge that was in it when I got it! I print like a madwoman and love it.
