Weary to the bone.

Okay, so about the raise....well, before that let me rewind and give a brief summary of the week thus far.

Monday was payroll input day and as we work in a business that deals with a lot of commission pay-outs, Bossman and I go through each employee's pay and call them in to review what they're being paid on - one by one, of course.

I mentioned before that a certain female coworker had been given the "Come to Jesus" speech last month (also known as the "Shit or get off the pot" speech). She decided that she would work until the end of the month as she had some projects dangling. She sent out a bunch of résumés and went on a couple of interviews to no avail. Seeing as how her job prospects weren't so hot, she put it out there that she'd be willing to take a demotion to stay on.

When she got called into Bossman's office on Monday to review her pay Bossman broached the subject of what she planned on doing the next month. He basically said that if she'd be content working in a lower position and having to report to more people she could stay on.

She wanted 48 hours to think about it. (24 hours because she'd be in court the next day + 24 hours probably because she had another interview lined up).

When she returned today she said she'd be staying on in the lower role.

Chaos ensued as the entire office shuffled around to accomodate a new pecking order.

Shit. I'd already told Blue Cross to terminate her coverage at the end of the month (I'll have to scramble to get that reestablished before she finds out, eh?)

Anyway. Rewind back to payroll input day. I think it was in looking at a bunch of spreadsheets of employee pay and Bossman seeing that I'm the lowest paid person in the office that prompted my raise. I didn't bring it up - he did. To put things in perspective I'll just say that now I make the same base as the rest of the staff. There was also some embarrassing blah blah about how much he appreciates be being there (a.k.a. "I'm up shit creek if you quit").

...and I have a new computer montitor. 17". I think I lucked out because I'm closest to the door and since I have a different job than everyone else it won't look suspciciously like favortism, and just that the older monitors are being phased out.

So. It's been an interesting week so far. We've got a new guy starting on Friday, so we'll see how THAT goes.

Sounds like Bossman made that easy, even if he did take his sweet time about it.

Congratulations. :)
