Lost the battle.

In case you were wondering what happened with the assistant hiring situation, the underdog lost. Whether or not I put all my weight behind a given candidate, in the end the final say comes down to Bossman. Since he really doesn't like firing people, he'd rather not risk hiring them in the first place. This methodology will probably backfire at some point, but that's how it works.

Kid B starts on Monday. I feel like such a heel. I know this kid will probably boost our sales but I can't help but to feel a little guilty. In addition to my save-the-world complex the role this kid will be taking isn't what we were interviewing for, so I'm still shy one assistant.

I should clarify here that the role that I was hired for last year is no longer being done, per se. I have one part-time assistant who comes in 14 hours per week. That means I'm still 26 hours short of getting a lot of clerical work done. My desktop is an avalanche waiting to happen.

I give up. Maybe in January I'll feel like sorting through the endless pile of résumés again.
