I'm so childish. Good thing I'm having one!

pamphlet.JPGOkay, so I had my first prenatal care visit today. I don't guess my trip to my usual doctor for a beta test counts. They drew lotsa lotsa blood and made me feel dirty. I don't know how true it is, but the nurse said that the state requires that they test all pregnant women for chlamydia.

That's one of those *blink blink* moments where you just sit there mouthing "Okay..." knowing that I should be able to connect the dots between "burning urination" and "bad juju" should I have been infected. Eh. Incidentally, I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over my normal weight. I just read that four to six pounds during the first trimester is average...and I'm only 2/3 through it. So...there's an unaccounted for 5-10 pounds in there. I'm not going to sweat it. *murmurs "healthy baby" mantra*

I have a folder full of information about such things as prenatal exercise classes, clincial trials where I can get free stuff, and eating suggestions. Right now I'm working out of the three major food groups: ice creams cheese curls/cheese pretzels/cheddar cheese chex, and sour.

I have to go back in 3 weeks for more poking and prodding.

Pregnancy changes your sense of smell, making everything more pungent for one, but also changing your likes. Sigh.

Treat yourself well. Splurge on foods that are good for you and that you like, especially with a high water content. You are making a lot of extra blood right now, and your metabolism is speeding up.

Fresh or frozen fruits/fruitcicles, red meat, plates of mixed green salad from a bag with cherry tomatoes, chopped egg perhaps, and stuff sprinkled all over. Trail mix. Corn tortillas heated up in the microwave (3 for 40 seconds, just on a plate) then buttered.

Think about what goes into your mouth, maybe worrying about the amount is too much, but you can at least try for quality.
