Hit me, baby, one more time.

So, as part of one of those clinical studies I'm in, I went and had a 16th week ultrasound on Tuesday. Boy, this kid sure likes to beat me up. It was flailing around as if I had told it I was being a surrogate uterus for Britney Spears. Under ideal conditions, most people can see the sex of their baby at this point. I was afraid that with the way my luck had been running that the kid would have its legs crossed and wouldn't let us take a peek.

I know a lot of people are gung ho about the sex of thier baby being a surprise until birth because there are "so few surprises left" but when you're dealing with people like my husband and I who have to make 1000 concessions before coming to a joint decision, you have to start planning stuff like this early. You should see the stack of paint chips on the kitchen table.

I was really ambivalent on whether I preferred my first young'un to be a boy or girl, so I can't say that I'm disappointed. Of course I want a little girl to dress up and mold in my evil ways, but I also like the idea of having an "older brother" to play chaperone later on.

Scott's parents are really attached to the idea of him being a "the IVth," which I'm fine with, however, what would we call him? Scott goes by his middle name to be differentated from his father who goes by his first name. Either way, if all three are together someone's going to be confused. Calling him "Little Scott" just seems pitiful.

I'm leaning towards the name "Thundar." He'll be a super-tall basketball player who'll take care of us in our old age.

Congrats! He can play with my soon to be niece who should end up being just a few weeks older!

Yay, it's a boy! You just have to make sure he doesn't overdo the whole overprotective big brother thing if you have a little girl later on. We called my nephew (who's named after his father) Baby Keith .... until around high school, when for him that shit got real old, real fast. We call him Keith Jr. now; maybe you could refer to the baby as Scott Jr.
