I haven't had my coffee yet

I need your opinion. Not that it would make any difference whatsoever, but it may possibly salve my conscience. I'm feeling particuarly evil.

Do you think I should have to mail my officemates' personal mail items? Specifically items that are stamped and ready to be mailed? The mail box is on their way out the complex. Why would they want to make me walk all the way over there in the morning to put their shit in? They think they're doing me a favor by running it through the meter themselves, but it reality if they don't post date it, I have to go IN THE MORNING to mail shit instead of waiting until the afternoon and making one trip when I pick up the incoming mail. Do they not have a mailbox at their house?

I don't use office supplies (i.e. postage meter and envelopes) to mail my bills. Even if I were a relative of Bossman, I'd be uncomfortable using office supplies and leaving them on the administrative assistant's desk to ship out.

I wouldn't have a problem with dropping their mail if I was going to the box anyway but I certainly wouldn't make a special trip for it. Just let them know that you go to the box at X o'clock and if their mail is prepared incorrectly to be mailed at that time it won't get mailed.

Why are they so fricking lazy??

Um, yeah, what Jim said. ;)

I have done this same thing (both sides of it)... Best thing to do is let them all know you are going to take out the mail twice a day and if anyone wants to help out you would be more than happy to share. Announce it each tmime you go and take this time as a break from the fine folks you work with.

Love it and make it you own thing... then inevitably it will be taken away from you.

Don't let this become an expectation of theirs! Lay down the lawn now while everything's relatively new. You will only take their mail if you are already on your way there. As for their using office supplies for mail, I'm not sure I'd say anything about it unless you are in charge of supplies and the supply budget. If so, then by all means say something.

I meant lay down the LAW of course. Not lawn. Heh.

If you're not going to the mailbox for "official purposes" and it's quittin' time, let them know that their stuff isn't going to the box until tomorrow or the next time you go for "official purposes". Possibly send this notice out in a memo or e-mail with the days, times, situations, etc. that you go to the box (personal errands are not part of your job, right?). If they want to say you're being "petty" so be it. You don't care if they like you anyway, do you? BTW, does the postman not come into your office?

I like Robert's solution, though - make it your most favorite, looked forward to activity of the day and sure enough someone will swipe it away from you, pronto. Heh, reverse psychology.

I've been on your side of this issue and it used to irritate me to no end!! The worst one was when my supervisor threw in her entire stack of Christmas cards -- including one to me!!! I had to mail my own damn Christmas card!! It never bothered me if someone came up early in the day and asked, "Can I ask a special favor...?" It was the people that ASSUMED that I was some sort of personal courier service that made me want to scream! In other words... I feel your pain!
