Beer Blogging

yuengling.jpg
Last year I asked my readers some advice on good beer, and I've been heeding it, believe you me. I've made Shiner my beer of choice and have encountered at least one restaurant that serves it on tap.

The unfortunate thing about being a Shiner drunk is that if a store has it, they only have a few cases. I'm probably one of three people in the state that drinks Shiner, so this means a couple of things: 1) I'm the only person that buys it from my local Harris Teeter and they only reorder it when I buy their last case, or 2) they don't carry it at all because they only carry cheap-ass flat beers made by corporations with names that start with "A" or "C."

Now then, today my local Harris Teeter was all out of regular shiner, and I wasn't about to experiment with the "winter brew" deal that they had on sale, so I picked up some Yuengling. I'm not digging this aftertaste. Blah.

So, I'm asking again. What's a good beer? Keep in mind that I don't do low-carb and I don't like girlie beer...oh, and I'm in North Carolina. That pretty much eliminates most microbrews.

Ah, beer. One of my favorite subjects. :-) For "everyday," I like Amber Bock and Killian's Red, or Sam Adams. If you don't like the darker beers, you might want to try Ichiban (it's a Japanese beer). Yummy!

Shiner Bock is truly the best beer, especially when it's frosty cold. I don't even like dark beer very much. Fat Tire is pretty good, but I don't think it is available in NC. Have you tried at Cost Plus World Market? They have all kinds of cool beers and they even have the mixed six packs of beers so that you can sample exotics. They also have a lot of wines, gourmet goodies and teas.

My husband suggests Sam Adams or Bass (I think Bass is too dark), also Peroni (Italian). He also liked most of the Japanese beers when he was there a couple of years ago (Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi). I remember liking Kirin (Japanese) an awful lot, but I haven't had it in years. My brother-in-law swears by Abita Amber made in Louisiana. It's pretty good from what I remember. It is available in NC.

I like a super icy cold Corona with lime. Ahh. I miss beer. Of course, I'm happy with a super cold Miller Lite, too. Super icy frosty cold is really the only prerequisite for me. I just don't understand drinking room temp. beer. Gag.

I'm pretty sure that Otter Creek distributes in your area. Look for Stovepipe Porter.

It.Is.Too.Die.For.

Okay, maybe not to die for but it's easily at the 'to kill for' ranking.

Okay, I wouldn't kill indiscriminately for it. I'm not a psycho or anything.

Maybe a racoon or a small child, that's it.

These days I've been drinking Pyramid Hefeweizen. Tasty, not too heavy, very nice.

I like boring English ales, and I also go for Grolsch, but only if it's in the green bottle with that flippy top thing. I only want it then. Otherwise the beer doesn't taste right.

I also can recommend Budweiser-not the King of Beers, but a Czech beer called Budweiser (and yes, the two are battling out the name in court. The King of Beers insists it owns the name, however the Czech one has been around over 200 years. I can guess which one came first). Drink it frosty cold, and it is beautiful.

Yuengling Porter? Yuck! No wonder you hated it. Try the basic lager, it's not bad.
