Today I learned that ya can't buy alcohol before noon on Sundays.
I tried flashing them my agnostic i.d. card but it didn't work.
Posted by Tiffany at June 5, 2005 12:18 PMYea, good luck with that. I thought I left the "no alcohol on Sundays" thing behind when I left Alabama. Turns out, Colorado has the same rule. Thank God for nearby military installations! (Feds rule over state.)
Posted by: Nanc' at June 5, 2005 03:06 PMYeah,
Philadelphia has a "no alcohol on Sundays" policy too. But city council is trying to pass a bill in which liquor stores can serve acohol till 2 pm. But the community leaders are like, "Sundays are holy days and it should be a day to observe God not hang out with Jack Daniels or Mr. Colt 45."
Well, they didn't say that, but you get the gist.
Not to pry into your business, but you have an agnostic ID card?
I have never heard of that. I mean, I understand what the card represents, but is this card useful in daily life?
I guess here in NJ/Philly, we just don't give a damn if you are agnostic, hollistic, freaky-deaky or just plain crazy. So excuse my naivete.
Posted by: Trent at June 5, 2005 03:59 PMThis is the reason I stock up on Saturday evenings. When I'm good and ready for a damn drink, I don't need some retard observing Sunday telling me no.
Posted by: MsThing at June 5, 2005 08:45 PMNah, I don't really have an agnostic i.d. card...but wouldn't it be handy if they would just put a little "A" on your driver's license to show that you believe in the separation of church and state and regardless of your religious beliefs (or lack thereof) you want a gosh darn beer on Sunday afternoon?
It was only mildly embarassing. I was going through the self-checkout line at Kroger and I guess it was around 11:44. When I scanned my beer it said "Please remove your item from the bag and hand it to the cashier." I was confused and then the clerk told me "It's not 12 o'Clock."
If I knew th significance of that I wouldn't have been trying to buy it in the first place.
I ended up spending 10 minutes walking around A.C. Moore and then went next door to Total Wine. Now I know why they open at 12 on Sunday.
Posted by: Tiffany at June 5, 2005 09:14 PMYeah, you can't buy it at all on Sundays in Minnesota. Except I think you can still buy 3.2 beer at the gas station.
I could live with the no buying on Sunday thing if the liquor stores were open past 10 on Fridays and Saturdays.
