The things that are going to throw a monkey wrench into your life are always the ones that come to fruition.

I'm going to take one of those pills now. This has been a particuarly nauseous, icky day. But before my forehead hits the desk and I black out completely, I'd like to share some news.

I had a pedicure.

No, that's not it, although my toes look fabulous.

I was offered another job today. The good news is that it's a job a truly want to do and know I can make a real difference doing.

The bad news is that I'd be taking a tremendous pay cut. You know I'm paid next to nothing as it is, so that's really saying something.

It's one of those AmeriCorps VISTA positions. In a nutshell, I would be working to help develop programs to keep kids in Durham schools on track for graduation (and out of trouble). If I have to live here, I want to do what I can to make it a great place to live. I don't want to feel like when our baby gets to be old enough to start school that we'll need to move two miles to get them into a certain elementary school. I love the idea of public schools for children, but Durham really needs some help getting a few of the mostly-minority schools back up to academic standards. I'm sick of my Wake County coworkers talking shit about how crappy Durham is. Wake County is just as bad. There's just more money to dilute the problem a little.

So, I'll need to do some soul searching. If I do this for the next year it's not like we'll be poor, but I probably won't see a new pair of shoes until July 2007.

Man, that's the dilemma of all dilemmas (as far as jobs go). I don't have a suggestion one way or the other. I have a feeling you're gonna end up taking it. Good luck deciding.
